Le but de cette étude était de vérifier les effets protecteurs de l'acide ascorbique (AsA) contre le sepsis induit par le lipopolysaccharide (LPS). L’étude a été réalisée sur des rats Shionogi (ODS) atteints de trouble ostéogénique, incapables de synthétiser de l’AsA. Les niveaux d'ARNm de TNFalpha hématiques 6 h après l'injection de LPS ont également été réduits par l'administration d'AsA. Ces résultats ont démontré que l'apport alimentaire en AsA améliorait les taux de survie et supprimait les dommages inflammatoires, de manière dose-dépendante, provoqués pendant la septicémie induite par le LPS chez des rats atteints de SAO.
