CONTEXTE: La ménopause est associée à une augmentation du stress oxydatif et des troubles de la mémoire. Basé sur la propriété antioxydante de l'acide ascorbique (AA), son effet sur la fonction cognitive, le taux sérique du facteur neurotrophique dérivé du cerveau (BDNF) et l'activité d'enzymes antioxydantes dans le cerveau chez des souris ovariectomisées (OVX) ont été étudiés. Méthodes: AA (100, 300 et 500 mg / kg) a été administré par voie orale par jour à des souris OVX pendant 30 jours. L'apprentissage tactile et la mémoire de travail ont été évalués par la nouvelle tâche de reconnaissance d'objet et la tâche d'alternance continue T-maze, respectivement. Les niveaux de BDNF sérique ont été mesurés et les cerveaux des animaux ont été analysés pour déterminer l'activité de la superoxyde dismutase (SOD) et de la glutathion peroxydase (GPx). RÉSULTATS: Les AA ont évité les effets délétères de l'ovariectomie sur la mémoire d'apprentissage (300 et 500 mg / kg) et la mémoire de travail (100 et 500 mg / kg). Le taux sérique de BDNF était également augmenté chez les animaux OVX traités avec AA (100 et 500 mg / kg). De plus, l'AA (500 mg / kg) augmentait l'activité de la SOD et de la GPx dans le cerveau des animaux OVX. CONCLUSIONS: Dans leur ensemble, les résultats de la présente étude suggèrent que les AA pourraient constituer un choix approprié pour la perte ou la réduction de l'estradiol dans l'amélioration de la déficience cognitive.
