Une méthode spectrophotométrique sensible pour la détermination du titane dissous (Ti) dans l'eau de mer est développée. Elle implique une préconcentration en ligne et une cellule capillaire à guide d’onde liquide (LWCC). La résine d’acide nitrilotriacétique (NTA) est utilisée pour préconcentrer le Ti dans un échantillon d’eau de mer d’environ 25 ml à un pH de 1,7, et l’élution est réalisée avec de l’acide chlorhydrique à 0,8 mol / -1. La solution de Ti éluée est tamponnée à un pH de 6,0 avec 1,0 mol d’acétate d’ammonium et mélangée à une solution de 1,5 mmol de Tiron. Le mélange est ensuite injecté dans le LWCC et mesuré par spectrophotométrie à 420 nm. Avant l'étape de préconcentration, l'échantillon est traité avec 7 mmolL (-1) d'acide ascorbique afin de réduire Fe (III) en Fe (II), afin d'éliminer l'interférence de Fe. Fe (III) et Cu (II) présents dans les échantillons d’eau de mer à des concentrations 50 fois supérieures par rapport au Ti n’interférent pas dans la méthode, ni par Cd (II), Pb (II), Cr (VI), Mn (II) ), Al (III), Zn (II) et Ni (II) à des concentrations 100 fois plus élevées par rapport à Ti. Il est efficace dans le temps (7,5 minutes par échantillon), sensible (limite de détection de 0,10 nmol (-1)), précis (RSD de 1,40% pour une mesure à 1,00 nmol (-1) Ti) et se caractérise par une plage linéaire de 0,50 à 5,00 nmol (-1) Ti. La méthode a été appliquée à l'analyse d'échantillons d'eau naturelle prélevés dans l'estuaire de Jiulongjiang, Fujian, Chine.
